PROGRAM NOTES
Two by Four was written for my good friends Jesse Canterbury and William O. Smith, for their duo CD Collage/DeCollage. It posits two players, each playing two clarinets, resulting in a 4-voice clarinet choir. The work utilizes many extended techniques, including multiphonics, a murmuring effect much like the work of Evan Parker, and the aforementioned 2x4 performance technique.
