Tom Baker and Corrie Befort have been making work together for nearly two decades. They have collaborated to create full-length movement-based works, works for film and video, and have spent the last few years developing and exploring a shared language of improvisation. It is this language exploration that they will draw from for their set at the Racer Sessions.
"Through our collaboration over these many years we have developed an internal and integral language with each other. We can predict and reflect and be in the moment with each other as an improvisation develops. In the past few years, we have been exploring this language, and working to analyze and recognize the building blocks of that language. We are pursuing a long project that involves cataloging these building blocks, and working with each one as improvisatory material. We think of this process as building an aesthetic table of elements, and are excited to share a few of these elements in our set.
We hope that both sound-based and movement-based artists will come for the improv session that will comprise the second set, perhaps finding new collaborators and ways of expressing."
