PROGRAM NOTES
In 2010, pianist Tiffany Lin began a project to destroy two pianos, and commission two instrument builders to invent new instruments from the remains. She also commissioned two new works for the project, of which Wheel in the Sky is one. The instrument was a huge bulk of a machine, like a giant hurdy-gurdy, made from the soundboard, strings, and many other materials from the piano.
