Negative Space is a work written in 1998, commissioned by the Seattle Creative Orchestra, directed by Jarrad Powell with conductor Roger Nelson. The work started out as a guitar concerto, but it became a guitar "anti-concerto." It unfolds with the orchestra trying and eventually succeeding in co-opting the solo guitar into into the orchestral sound-world, where it becomes just one of many colors.
